I love this time of year – less daylight as the darkness of night expands. I slow down, tuck in a bit earlier.
What do you do during these long nights to soak in the quiet, to let it feed you, like dark mulch on a bed of bulbs resting underground during the winter months?
There is light in the darkness – perhaps a crescent moon, candles burn, the sun rises, just a bit later every morning. What about your unique inner light, your unique voice, your unique self? What is its greatest expression?
The 13th century Persian poet Rumi said,
“The quieter you become, the more you are able to hear.”
Take time to be quiet in the midst of the hustle and bustle of holidays that’s often a companion to this time of year. Even if just for a minute, or a few breaths. Take time. Sit. Listen. Be quiet.
Feel the wave of air moving in and out of the body. Allow your mind to settle in where your body is. From this place of awareness, we can truly experience life, know how best to take care of ourselves and those around us.
This season, observe the light that shines within your authentic self. Be curious. And may you recognize the light within each and everyone that you encounter.
